I know there are areas in Christianity where people have opposite beliefs. I also know that this will stir up some controversy, though really — I’m not trying to stir the pot. I just like to share what is on my heart. Please don’t feel the need to defend your thoughts on this because I am not attacking you. Okey dokey?

When I was little I was raised to celebrate Halloween, just like most kids. There were the handful who were raised by Spirit-filled parents who didn’t allow them to dress as evil characters or even watch that old sitcom “Bewitched.” Not me, I used to sing this silly song every Halloween, “Stirring and stirring and stirring my brew … ewwwwwww, ewwwwww.” I dressed like witches, had my face white with black rings around my eyes … blood, etc …. You get the picture.

Years later, in walks Jesus. A few years later comes even greater conviction from the Holy Spirit and there was no getting around it any longer.

The more I learned about spiritual warfare and demonic spirits — the more I understood the absolute wickedness of this “holiday.”

Even though we have supported the “fun” night at our church on Oct. 31st, I’m still not big about it. Last year I there was an adult woman there dressed as a witch. Many churches have the “trunk or treat” celebration. I know, kids dress as innocent things, yadda yadda yadda.

Children enjoy dressing up, adults enjoying watching them, etc … Yeah, yeah — I hear you. My daughter dresses in a princess costume on a daily basis.

But there are many Christians that get into the blood and gore — the darkness of this “holiday” …

I just don’t think there is any gray area.

What do darkness and light have in common? Aren’t we supposed to avoid even the appearance of evil?

As you know, we have a corn maze open to the public (through next weekend). I have received more calls than I can count asking if we “haunt” our maze. I have been thrilled to have so many THANKFUL that we don’t. (Mostly teenagers want it haunted. Sorry, it isn’t happening here.) Many tell me that they are Christians and don’t want to expose their children to stuff like that. The only ghost on this property is the Holy Ghost. My husband and I are not having that “mess” on our land. It is disgusting and there is no denying that when people are trying to look like “death” they are not honoring the Lord. I am thankful that he and I are in agreement about this.

Trust me, I have been outnumbered where our Christmas tree business is concerned (we have Santa out there on certain weekends). At least he was “modeled” after a real man who wanted to bless children. I never want to lie to my daughter though, so there is another area where I differ from most Christian parents in the modern world. I just can’t justify a lie.

I know each person has to walk through his own salvation with fear and trembling. Each of us have to make our own choices and weigh our thoughts, words, and actions against the Word of God. Trust me — I FAIL DAILY. My mouth exposes the “wickedness” in my own heart. I see my plank in my eye — believe me. These are just a couple of seasonal areas that don’t sit right with me.

Ok, so that is what is on my mind this morning. So much to ponder … yet I must get started with my day.

(I disabled comments on this post because I really didn’t want to start a debate.)

Love & blessings to you all.
