Today at the well, Patty posed the following discussion questions to us:

Think about your daily life as a wife, mother and child of God.

What are some ways that you have persisted when you have been knocked down?

How have these circumstances brought glory to the Father?

I’m sure there have been many ways I’ve been persistent in my 41 years of living. To me persistence and perseverance go hand in hand.

As a young woman, I stood on God’s Word to regain my life. Satan tried to steal my ability to live a “normal” life (if there is such a thing). It took years of standing on God’s Word to break free. Through desperation and the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I was persistent. I have shared my testimony with many women and have given them the keys of God’s truth that were given to me. God alone gets the glory in my freedom and victory.

James 1:12 states, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those that love Him.”
It also took persistence through the adoption process. We had a long wait (at least to us …). We started the process in April 2004 and were approved October 2004. In June of 2005, we were chosen, then the birth mother changed her mind. In the beginning of August, we met birth parents, were chosen — and HAD NAMED the baby boy. The day BEFORE we were supposed to pick him up and bring him home, the birth parents changed their minds (the couple decided to stay together). Finally, our precious daughter, the one God created for our family – was born that same month, August 2005.(This is a picture of our princess while in the hospital. My husband bought her that little donkey that she STILL carries. She was 5 pounds 4 ounces. So beautiful.)

Did I forget to mention the fact that we had been married 15 years when our princess was born? Before she was born, there were A LOT of tears shed on dreaded “Mother’s Day,” “baby showers,” and “baby dedications” at church. A lot of tears shed due to cruel (though not intentional) comments from acquaintances. God was faithful as my Comforter all of those years. Everyone who knows our daughter sees God’s Hand on her little life. She is anointed with His joy.

Don’t we all persevere through our walk with the Lord? I don’t see how any of us can be Christians and not persevere.

Hebrews 10:36 declares, “You need to persevere because when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.”

Romans 5:2b-4 states, “And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

It is my prayer that I will always persevere and head towards the calling God has for me and my family — accepting nothing less than the very thing He has for us!

Joshua 24:15 proclaims, “… But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
