1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I love fall!  It has always been a wonderful season for me.  My husband and I dated in the fall.  We married in the fall.  And our daughter was born near the beginning of fall.

But there is one thing that bothers me … Halloween.

When I was young, I celebrated Halloween.  It was fun to dress up and get candy.   My parents had a paper witch and skeleton they would hang every year.   I would sing a little Halloween songs and draw witches flying on broomsticks.   But in my adult life, after dealing with demons — I have a different outlook on Halloween.  It isn’t sweet and innocent.  Even though the person celebrating it may think so and their hearts aren’t evil — they don’t realize the darkness they entertain.

To many, it opens the door to the demonic — especially through the images that they see.  It desensitizes them to what is considered evil versus good.   Whatever images we allow into our mind are THERE unless God removes them.

What should Christians have in common with darkness other than exposing it and expelling it?

We have a lot of Christian groups attend our maze because they don’t want to expose themselves to that type of stuff.  When people come to our ticket office and say they want to get really frightened, we send them up the road to another maze and explain that we don’t do that here.

I saw the look on a friend’s face last night when she saw a group of young adults approaching the ticket house.  I told my daughter to hide her face.  These young people were dressed in such gory clothes.   They were covered in fake blood and honestly, I wanted to turn them away.    I asked them if they realized we didn’t haunt our maze (hoping to get them to go up the road to the other maze), but they already knew it but preferred our farm.   We were hoping none of the parents would complain.   That type of stuff is not welcomed here on our property.

I’m glad the focus will soon be on Thanksgiving and the birth of Jesus.

Abstain from all appearance of evil …
