Happy Resurrection Day Everyone!

Today I am linking with Barbie at My Freshly Brewed Life for Fresh Brewed Sundays.   She asks us to share a scripture with simple insight.   I chose Matthew 28:1-7 since today is Easter Sunday.

Matthew 28:1-7
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.  His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.  The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.  Then go quickly and tell His disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.’ Now I have told you.”

I have always envisioned Mary Magdalene and the other Mary walking slowly and grieving as they approached the tomb, but today I noticed that there was a violent earthquake.  Why hasn’t that stood out to me before?  Did they RUN to the tomb because of the earthquake?  Did they think the earthquake could have had something to do with the death of Jesus since the ground opened the moment He was crucified?  (The earth shook and people who had died came out of the tombs and walked the streets.)

I cannot imagine what the friends and loved ones of Jesus must have endured those last days of His life.  Think of what they must have felt to have seen Him again after death!  WHAT HOPE THAT MUST HAVE BIRTHED IN THEIR HEARTS!  God was so kind to allow people to see Jesus, talk with Him, and even touch Him before He ascended to heaven.   What a gift — in so many ways!

We have that same hope!  Hallelujah!  He is risen!  He took the stripes on His back and the nails in His hands and feet for US.  We don’t deserve it, but He has made a way for us to have eternal life.   I am grateful!

This song has been on my heart this morning!  Christ is Risen by Matt Maher.  Enjoy!
