I read the Colossians chapter 2 this morning and this is the scripture that stood out to me:

Colossians 2:15
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (NIV)

The Living Translation states He disarmed the SPIRITUAL rulers and authorities.

I recently met someone who has her own ministry.  She has a lot of knowledge regarding deliverance and discipleship.   We will be getting together one day soon and I can hardly wait to ask her, “Ok — what is your story?  How did you get on this path?”  I can only imagine that she dealt with demons in her own life as I did, but it will be interesting to find out.

That particular scripture in Colossians was one of my FAVORITE scriptures to quote when demons were coming against me.  I loved reminding them that Jesus made a PUBLIC spectacle of them and HE triumphed over them on the cross!  As those demons were busy filling my head with all sorts of torment and fear — I was busy setting the record straight!

There are no words to describe how I fought for my sanity all of those years!

Unless you are bound by fear and panic (or have been), you can’t truly relate.

The sad thing is … I was in church, but NOBODY knew how to help me.  None of the Christians around me knew one thing about spiritual warfare.  It was me, my Lord, and my bible.

Friends, Jesus did it ALL when He died on the cross for us!  If we are living under anything that doesn’t come into alignment with what His Word says He provided us, then don’t receive it as your own.  Don’t give up and settle assuming that is the way life is for you.  NO!

Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (NIV)

See, our struggle is against the rulers, the authorities, the powers, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Don’t let that scare you.  Christians, because of Jesus YOU have authority over them!  It is in the Name of Jesus.  It is by the power of His blood!

Luke 10:19
Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you. (AMP Ver)

I love how the Amplified Version breaks it down to physical and mental strength OVER the power of the enemy.

Doesn’t our battle always start in the mind?  You may have a thought in your mind, “I am going to freak out if I can’t get out of here!”  (This would be someone suffering from panic.)  Then the thought grows and the words start coming faster, “If I don’t escape, I won’t be able to breathe!”  The thoughts begin to build on one another. (And you come into AGREEMENT with them.)  Maybe your battle is with hopelessness or despair, “Nobody cares about me.  I don’t want to live anymore.  I should just end it all right now.  Who would even miss me?  My family would be better off without me.”  Guess who plants those thoughts?  Devils …

Since the battle often starts in our minds, it is IMPERATIVE that we know the word of God so that we can discern when our thoughts don’t line up with His Word.

Many Christians stopped at the stage of infancy.  They accepted Christ as their Lord, but never took their walk to the next step.  When the storms come, they won’t have deep roots to hold them steady. They will be tossed to and fro with the currents.

Jesus did everything He needed to do for us when He died on the cross.  He left us the tools we need to complete the work here on earth.

Do you know everything God’s Word says about your authority as a believer?

Are you moving away from the milk and getting ready for a serving of meat (solid food)?

1 Corinthians 3:1-2
Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.  I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

I want some solid food!  It is my desire to dig deeper, to hear God’s voice more clearly, and to have greater revelation.  Will you join me?  Jesus has given us all that we need.
