AHGtroopdaughterHave you ever heard of an organization called the American Heritage Girls (AHG)?   Well, if your answer is NO, then you might be interested in doing some research.   When my friends ask about AHG, I often tell them it is a Christian troop (like Girl Scouts, but Christian).

The AHG Oath:
I promise to love God,
Cherish my family,
Honor my country,
And serve in my community.

AHG mission:
Building women of integrity through service to God, Family, Community and Country.

Our cutie pie daughter pictured here was very excited to move from the youngest level called Pathfinders into this level, Tenderhearts — because she will be allowed to earn badges for her vest.    (Forgive the smudge on the troop number, but I had to protect our privacy ya know.)

I was just looking through her handbook that will be used until she is 18 (if she walks through each level) and I was excited to read all of the different interests that our daughter will be exposed to because of this troop.  I can hardly wait to get started on some projects with her!

Seriously, in this day and time – it is awesome to have another avenue to encourage her spiritual growth, but also teach her how to honor her country.

Right now she is working through the different qualities that are in the AHG creed.  My daughter has already memorized this:

As an American Heritage Girl, I promise to be:  Compassionate, Helpful, Honest, Loyal, Perserverant, Pure, Resourceful, Respectful, Responsible, and Reverent.

As a Tenderheart she has written out a scripture for each quality of the creed they have studied.  They are also asked to write down three examples of times when they have used each quality.   It is sweet to see my daughter’s excitement when I point out times when she has been compassionate and helpful.

I was prompted to write this post because we recently received her book and I was studying it tonight.  It was exciting to figure out which badges we might want to work on.  One of the first badges we will tackle together is the Book Adventurer badge.   I am thrilled to do this because she hasn’t been taught how to search for books in the library.  This will be the tool to spur us towards a library tour and tutorial.   This badge falls under the Personal Well-Being Frontier.   There are 5 other frontiers as well:  Heritage Frontier; Family Living Frontier; Arts Frontier; Outdoor Skills Frontier; Science and Technology Frontier.   Each frontier has approximately 13 (some more, some less) categories/badges to earn.

I think it is an awesome non-profit, Christian based organization.

(I know this post sounds like a commercial.  I was not asked to write about AHG.  I just wanted to share because of my own interest in the organization.)

Blessings to you!
