Faith moves God but forgiveness LOOSES His power.  Brian Adams

Wow, what a powerful statement.  I watched Sid Roth’s talk show a few days ago and my faith was STIRRED!

Brian’s quote above was a revelation that God spoke into his heart.  This revelation changed his life.

I know I have posted about unforgiveness more times than I can count, but it is something that so many of us have to deal with on a regular basis.  How many times a week do you feel offended?  Before you have time to capture a thought you think, “How dare someone do that to me?”  We have all been there, but really — though we might be right, the root of that statement would be PRIDE.

Yes, as much as it hurts, we must forgive.

Matthew 6:15
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
I won’t share everything Brian did concerning this revelation, but I had forgotten about this “part” of this particular story below.  Do you remember about the unjust servant?

Matthew 18:21-35
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me?  Up to seven times?”

Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
“At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
“But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.  He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

“His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’ “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.  When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’  In anger his master handed him over to the jailers [TORMENTORS] to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” (NKJV)

In the King James Version it stated that the servant would be handed over to the TORMENTORS.  Why?  Because he wouldn’t forgive a debt.  Then what does it state?  THIS IS HOW MY HEAVENLY FATHER WILL TREAT EACH OF YOU unless you forgive … God will turn us over to the tormentors.

Over the years as I fought to be set free from bondage to fear, I had read every book and memorized all of the scriptures about fear.  But there just seemed to be an open door that I couldn’t close.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  (KJV)

A person living in fear is definitely tormented.  But fear is not the only way of being tormented.  There are many mental areas of torment that we can face.

When I had the revelation about unforgiveness and torment, I began to search my heart.  God quickly brought different people to my remembrance.

Maybe we have to continue to consciously and willfully forgive over and over again (even if we don’t “feel” it in our hearts).  We have a will and we can choose to offer forgiveness.  Trust me, there are some people that I have to hand over again and again (70 times 7 right?).  Maybe we have to forgive people who don’t “deserve” our forgiveness (but we don’t deserve God’s forgiveness either).

When Christ was on the cross, being mocked and tormented, He said, “Father forgive them, they know not what they are doing.”  Sometimes we humans are the puppets and the devil is the puppet master.  Sometimes we get caught up in the emotion and don’t see the bigger picture.

If Jesus could forgive those who nailed Him on a cross, pulled out his beard, ripped His flesh, spit upon Him, mocked Him, tortured Him — then we have absolutely no right nor any grounds to walk in unforgiveness.

Brian Adams prayed something like this at the end of Sid Roth’s show.  If you KNOW you need to release some people, pray though this prayer:

Dear Father, I make a conscious decision to forgive every person who has ever hurt me — ever lied against me or my family members.  If I feel You let me down, I forgive you.  I forgive myself for wrong decisions.  I release the past and let it go.  I want to walk close with You again God.  I receive restoration and I receive the power from heaven that is released when forgiveness is granted.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen
