Oursweetgirl2012Last night our daughter had a sleepover.   She is still on her fall break and has tried to squeeze in as many play-dates and sleepovers as possible.

I was so tired last night!  I normally wait until our daughter is asleep before I head off to bed, but I just couldn’t hold out.  Right after I went to bed I heard the cutest giggling from the room across the hall.  Those girls were so tickled!   It made me and my husband laugh with them.  He even commented what a blessing it was to hear that laughter!

I am thankful for the laughter of children in our home.   We went many years without a child and we have loved every moment of our daughter’s life.

I love that her friends enjoy coming here to play on the farm.   We are so blessed in so many ways, but today I am pondering on the joy of children.

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Ah, the innocence of a child.   They love with their whole hearts and trust (until given a reason to feel otherwise).   What a gift to love that freely.   Jesus wants us to approach the Father with that same type of abandon and joy.

A friend and I were discussing our childhoods yesterday and we both made the comment, “Well, that was just the way that generation handled things …”  When we were growing up,  a lot of parents didn’t tell their children they were proud of them.  Some never even heard, “I love you.”   Parents worked and didn’t take time to help with schoolwork or read to their children.  It was a different time for sure.

Our generation apologizes to our children and covers them with praise and encouragement.   We read to our children and help with homework.  I suppose our biggest downfall would be the time that technology steals from the family.   We always have a lap top or smart phone in our hands (or so it seems).

In the future, I pray our daughter will only have sweet memories and will know how loved and adored she was since birth.

Though I have many blessings to mention, today I will say that I am thankful for our dear daughter and all of the joy that she brings.  I am so glad we were chosen by God to be her parents.
