God has called us to be fruitful, not busy.  – Joyce Meyer

I can remember a time in my life, not that many years ago, when my schedule revolved around church and my responsibilities there.

Was it a fruitful time?  Yes, I’m sure it was — or at least had it moments.  I did feel like I was doing what God had called me to do … and some extra I suppose …

BUSY

Why do we all stay so busy?   What are we hoping to accomplish?

I see so many families who rarely have consecutive nights at home because of extracurricular activities.

STOP!

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;  I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Do you ever get a chance to just sit in a quiet place without distractions?

If I had any control over my husband whatsoever (which I do NOT), I would have a rule that no phones remain turned on in the evenings.   Our dinners are always interrupted and there is no time carved out where electronic devices are turned off.

I need times of quiet around me.  Even now, the only sound in my home is the hum of the air conditioner and my parent’s grandfather clock ticking.

I don’t know about you, but there have only been a couple of times in my life when the voice of the Lord was loud to me.  The other times it has been gentle, matter of fact, and would almost be dismissed if I wasn’t tuning in to hear from Him.   We all need quiet time with our Father — even our children need to learn this lesson.

What are we teaching our children when they are shuttled from one activity to the next each day?

Be still …

And know …

that HE is God …

I can’t help but think of the lyrics to None But Jesus by Hillsong United:

In the quiet
In the stillness
I know that You are God
In the secret of Your presence
I know there I am restored
When You call i won’t refuse
Each new day again I’ll choose

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

In the chaos in confusion
I know You’re sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your will
When You call I won’t delay
This my song through all my days

All my delight is in You Lord
All of my hope
All of my strength
All my delight is in You Lord
Forever more
I pray you will find some time to enjoy some peace and quiet today.

God bless you!
