Have you read the books of 1, 2, and 3 John lately?  What about Jude?  (Did you remember there was a book of Jude just before Revelation?)  Honestly, I sort of forgot about Jude.  It may be a small book, but it is power packed!

I have been reading these books this week and I want to entice you to read them as well by dangling some juicy morsels.

In 1 John, John the author, basically explains truths about the Christian life.  He testifies how he has seen and touched the Word of life!  Interesting that he said it like he did.

1 John 1:1-3
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.  We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

Can you imagine being on earth with Jesus?  Touching Him?  Laughing with Him?

John goes on to share with us about light and darkness, sin and forgiveness.

1 John 1:5b
God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.

I really dislike seeing Christians with the yin-yang (some call ying-yang) symbol.  That symbols represents there is a little bit of good in darkness and a little bit of darkness in good.  Not according to this scripture above.  There is no DARKNESS in God.

1 John 2:11
But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.  They do not know where they are going because the darkness has blinded them.

Doesn’t that explain a lot?  Each of us know someone who is bitter and cruel — most likely has no idea the way he portrays himself to others.  They don’t know or understand because of their blindness.  If hatred is in his heart, he has allowed blindness to cover his eyes.

My sister-in-Christ, Robin, reminded me the other day that God is an IF/THEN God.  Our choices determine our direction — that is for sure!  If we allow hatred in our hearts, then the scripture shows us the consequences.

In chapter 4, John instructs us to test the spirits!  If you haven’t read how to test the spirits before now, find chapter 4:1-3.

He also shares this scripture that has special importance to me.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

2 John and 3 John are very short like Jude, but worth your time.

I love this scripture in Jude:

Jude 1:20-21
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

The Amplified Version really puts verse 20 in perspective.  Pray in the Holy Spirit to build yourself up!

Jude 1:20
But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit;

I love God’s Word!  I am so blessed to be able to read it!  Aren’t you?  Every answer we need is in it.

Will you join me in my quest this week to dig a little deeper?  Press in a little harder?

I hope I have spurred your curiosity to see what these small books are all about.

Have a super blessed Wednesday!  I pray we will all step out of our comfort zones today and walk with Kingdom Purpose!
