authority

Last night I started reading the book of Mark because I often overlook it.  I usually grab Matthew if I want to read one of the gospels since it is first and more detailed than Mark.   I kept noticing the word AUTHORITY.  It just popped out of the scriptures over and over again.   The word is still ringing in my ears this morning so I thought I would use this scripture from Luke to create a photo today.

Luke 10:19
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

In the book of Mark, people were amazed at the AUTHORITY Jesus had when teaching.

Mark 1:22
The people were amazed at His teaching, because He taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

Then over and over again they marveled at His authority to drive out demons.

Mark 1:27
The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey Him.”

If you do a search on the word “authority” through the gospels, you will see it pop up over and over again.

What gives a person authority?  A badge?  A uniform?  A position?  A title?  Yes.  We often know who has governmental or local authority over us.

If we were speeding and a citizen pulled up next to us and pointed for us to pull over — we would look at him like he was nuts.  But if a policeman even appeared in our rear-view mirror we would immediately slow down.   We know he has AUTHORITY.

Guess what?  If you are a Christian – then you ALSO have authority because of Jesus.

He gave it to us.

If we only understood our authority, the world would be a different place.

Our lack of understanding is like a policeman with a loaded gun, but never touching it and allowing criminals to beat him up and lead him around with chains.

We have the Spirit of the Living God within us.  Let that resonate in your understanding for a second …   It is almost too much to wrap our minds around, I know.

Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

I pray a rich nugget of truth will be planted in your heart today and that you will have revelation concerning the authority you have in Christ Jesus.  God did not leave us here on earth without equipping us to overcome.  I pray each of us will walk in His authority in all areas of our lives.  We are not victims but victors because of Jesus.   In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
