During the exact moment the tragedy at the Sandy Brook Elementary school was taking place in Newtown, Connecticut — I was at my daughter’s school watching her 1st grade Christmas performance.
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
There isn’t a parent around who hasn’t put themselves in the shoes of those who lost their children. I cannot fathom the grief and despair.
Prince of Peace
Each Christian parent has to lean on the Prince of Peace as we entrust our precious babies in the lives of other adults (teachers and administrators) each school day while they are out of our hands. It is even more evident our need in the peace that only God can provide after something scary like this happens.
I had a friend on FB whose child was also singing comment that she couldn’t even watch this video now that she understood what was taking place while we were sitting there in our gym. The events that happened in Newtown definitely made us all squeeze our children a little tighter!
We didn’t want our daughter hearing about what happened, but she did. She began to ask questions and I told her with no doubt in my heart that those babies went straight into the arms of Jesus. The beautiful Prince of Peace that our children were singing about was there to receive those in Newtown, Connecticut.
Even in the midst of great sadness in the world, Jesus is still worthy of praise. He is Wonderful and is the only way those families can have hope and strength through this horrendous tragedy. They need to be carried by His peace as they grieve and push through the pain. I know each of you will continue to pray for them just as I am.

Yes, Jesus is worthy of praise! Words cannot express how saddened and grieved I feel for the children and families of Newtown. What a tragedy! I cannot imagine something like that happening at our school. We go through drills for lock down in case something happened. The children huddle behind our desks. Every time we practice, I feel such sadness for the need for this. But in our world are many people who do evil things. Such a contrast as you described. Your daughter is so precious.
