Hebrews 12:15
See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Have you ever been around a bitter person? They shed their bitter fruit everywhere they go. I can definitely understand how many are defiled.
Look at the Amplified Version:
Exercise foresight and be on the watch to look [after one another], to see that no one falls back from and fails to secure God’s grace (His unmerited favor and spiritual blessing), in order that no root of resentment (rancor, bitterness, or hatred) shoots forth and causes trouble and bitter torment, and the many become contaminated and defiled by it–
Bitterness causes torment within a person’s mind. Anger, resentment, and self-pity occupy a bitter person’s thoughts. Did you notice the Amplified Version spelled out that a person with a bitter root misses a spiritual blessing? Did you also notice that this root causes trouble?
This is definitely something we all need to keep out of our hearts.
I pray everyone reading this post who struggles with bitterness and unforgiveness will find healing with the Lord. You can lay down all offenses, hurt, anger, bitterness, and the like. The Lord is faithful!
A great book to read that helped me in my healing process is, “The Bait of Satan” by John Bevere. It is a quick read, but full of wisdom.

this is so true. God dealt with me almost four years ago about unforgiveness and bitterness. i didn’t want to miss out on my spiritual blessings from the Lord.

Oh what bitterness does to a person’s soul. I am thankful that God has given me the gift of being quick to forgive!

It took me a very long time to forgive someone who really broke my heart big time! But what a liberating feeling to finally be able to do so. The Lord was right when He gave me His conviction. That person was not hurting me. It was I hurting myself because I had allowed the wounds in my heart fresh all the time instead of allowing them to be exposed into His Light and be healed by His grace, love and mercy.
I opened the pantry door smelling something funny. Until my nostrils discovered the bag of potatoes I forgot to cook in a basket in one corner. In the darkness inside the pantry, some of the potatoes started growing roots and started decaying! What a stink! So, I took out the bag and in the light, saw there were still good ones I washed and those that grew roots? Got thrown in the trash!
