Isn’t this a happy, gentle looking fellow? His name is Dr. Mark Virkler. I saw him speak on Sid Roth’s television show It’s Supernatural and decided to order his teaching CD’s entitled: Prayers That Heal the Heart (prayer counseling that breaks every yoke). Woo hoo! How exciting! So far this morning I have listened to the first (out of 8) CD.

Dr. Virkler instructs us to journal (not a problem for me) while we are focused on Jesus and praying. As we discuss things with the Lord, journal what we are hearing back from Him. I’ll discuss this again later in this post.

He defines a HEALED HEART: One which has 1 Corinthians 13:13 working in it.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain:
faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Faith, hope, and love are ABIDING realities. These will go into eternity.

We are to put these on daily: Breastplate (protects our heart) of FAITH AND LOVE. HOPE of our salvation as a helmet.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Dr. Virkler defines HOPE as the confident expectation of good. He suggests we “tank up” on faith, hope, and love each morning.

Hebrews 10:22
let us draw near to God with a sincere heart [love] in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience [hope] and having our bodies washed with pure water.

As you can tell, I added “love” and “hope” to the verse above. Walking in love, faith, and hope helps us draw nearer to God.

He posed this question: Are there any situations in your life where you don’t feel faith, hope, and love? One that he mentioned and I could definitely say, “YES” is with our government. That means I have some heart issues that need healing.

He points out that our hearts and our minds have two different languages. This is why we can’t just say, “Heart, stop feeling that way” and it actually listen and obey.

The language of the mind is to REASON. If we reason WITHOUT the anointing of the Holy Spirit, then it is mental reasoning.

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

Isaiah 55:9
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.

John 5:19-20 shows that even Jesus didn’t follow His own initiative: Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all He does …”

Anytime “reasoning” was used in the bible without the Holy Spirit, Jesus rebuked the person.

Language of the HEART:

We all know the scripture that states rivers of living water flow within us if we are saved (John 7:38). Dr. Virkler calls this first language of the heart FLOW. This ties back into the journaling. He suggests that as we are in tune with the Lord, focused on Him … we should journal from the FLOW. We should follow the flow of the Holy Spirit. Where does the river of living water begin? THE THRONE ROOM OF GOD. If we allow this river to flow through us and if we follow the flowing of the Holy Spirit, we can speak the oracles of God and use our faculties for His glory. He will use us.

Another language of the heart is PICTURES.

Numbers 12:6
When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in
visions, I speak to him in dreams.

Joel 2:28
And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

God definitely uses PICTURES to speak to us. Our culture doesn’t teach us to use our imagination, but our reasoning alone.

Emotions are another part of the heart’s language.

Genesis 6:6
The LORD was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was filled with pain.

Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness …

Love, Joy, and Peace are emotions. You can trust love, joy, and peace and you can actually live out these emotions.

Meditation is the final part of the heart’s language.

Psalm 77:6
I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search.

Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

To make this simple: Heart language = flow, pictures, emotions, meditation/pondering. Mind language = rational cognitive thoughts, reasoning.

Dr. Virkler designed this study because HE was set free from quite a few demons that he didn’t even realize he was carrying. He realized that he carried anger within him (among other things). He bound the devil and memorized scripture, but his HEART needed healing. The binding and quoting the Word didn’t fix the problem. The issue was still in his heart. (Does this ring true with any of you? I know I’ve been there.)

He met up with a Spirit-filled prayer counselor who led him through healing. From his experience with her, God taught him 7 prayers that heal the heart. I’ll be sharing with you as I learn.

Sorry this was so long. I think this will be a very interesting study! He suggests if you think you struggle hearing from the Lord (which would create doubt that you could “flow” with the Holy Spirit while praying) you could order his book: Communion with God (by Mark and Patti Virkler).
