silverlacedescapeThis is one of my Silver-Wyondotte hens.  She and one of our Ameraucana hens have discovered that they can fly out of their daytime area.

I began to catch them on top of the gate like this hen.  Each time I would give them a gentle push back into the pen.  Then I began to give them stronger pushes.  Once, while watering flowers, I sprayed water in their direction to make them go back into the pen.

Finally, I gave up.  I have close to 30 hens and these two are the only two that have the freedom to walk throughout the yard during the day.  They are in chicken heaven as they explore and find all sorts of yummy bugs.   They stay out all day and fly back over their day-fence and return to their flock in the evenings.

To these hens, the price of freedom was worth it.  I resisted them yet they pressed on until they had won the battle.  They wore me down.  (Have you ever tried to chase a chicken?  They are fast as lightning.)

You can almost see the pride in this hen’s expression as she stretched her neck nice and tall to see what awaited her on the other side.

Dotescaping Are you like the hens that press through and escape to freedom or have you just accepted your position?

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Those chickens resisted my attempts to keep them where they didn’t want to be and eventually they won.   It still makes me angry that I can’t keep the crazy birds in the pen, but I have decided to stop wasting my time and energy on them.

Years ago when I was bound by fear, each uncomfortable step I took against the fear was the same type of battle.  I wanted freedom!  The demons were there to push me back each time I took a step of faith to move forward.  I didn’t give up though — I pressed on because I believed God’s Word.  The scripture stated that if I resisted the devil, he would flee from me.   I used the sword of God’s Word and took one step after another.

I’m sure it makes the demons angry when we overcome, but after they see that they can’t push us around in a particular area, they move on to other souls who don’t know how to walk in the Truth.

You see, the battle has already been won for us.  Jesus has already done everything He needed to do for us to walk in freedom.  The victory is ours and is there for the taking.

What is the difference between the two chickens who escape each day and the others who don’t?  Why do they take the risk?

Why do many Christians remain in bondage rather than break free?  Sometimes the bondage provides a false sense of comfort because it feels familiar/safe.   Perhaps people are baby Christians and don’t know what is written within the pages of the Bible.  They don’t understand the POWER in the Word of God and how it is used as our sword.

Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Are you settling as well?  Do you experience life to the fullest or are you bound in the same cyclical patterns that you have found yourself in for years?

If you can answer yes to those last two questions, then make a decision today to break free.  Jesus has already given you the authority against the one holding you in bondage:

Luke 10:19
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

I can only tell you from what I have walked through and experienced, but the battle almost ALWAYS begins in your thoughts.  What are you thinking and are those thoughts biblical?

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (Emphasis mine.)

Do you believe what God says about you OR what satan is telling you?

Romans 8:37
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Are you walking as a conqueror?

So many people ask others for prayer.  There is nothing wrong with that of course.  I don’t know what I would do without my prayer partners!   Prayer is powerful and effective, BUT … there are just some battles that others cannot do for you.  I cannot capture your thoughts for you, nor can I make you believe the Word of God and use it as a sword.   I can’t pray anyone into freedom without them making changes from the inside out.  Each person must fight their own battles though others can pray for them to have strength, clarity, and understanding.

So where are you today?  Are you within the fence looking out?  Are you hoping someone will come rescue you or are you content within the bondage?

If you are wanting to be rescued, you no longer have to wait.  Jesus came to set the captives free.    You can call on Him and trust Him.
