dragonflyWhat a glorious morning we are having!  I stepped out on our deck to spend some time with the Lord and I was greeted with a cool breeze.  I had on my gown and a robe, but wanted to retreat to find a blanket!  It felt like fall outside.  Very exciting!  I am ready for cold weather!

Today I read from the book of Hebrews and it sure did stir up a fire within me!  It is an awesome book!  I felt like I had eaten a meaty breakfast!

If anyone ever asks you, “Who is this Jesus you mention” — then direct them to start reading Hebrews — beginning with chapter 1.

Hebrews 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Hebrews 2:9
But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

Hebrews 2:14-15
Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil — and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Hebrews 2:18
Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet He did not sin.

Those few verses say A LOT and explain A LOT don’t they?

I absolutely LOVE God’s Word!  It gives life!

I want to encourage anyone reading this post who feels hopeless or sick.  I am living proof that God’s Word can change your life.  As an heir with Christ, you have the right to believe God’s Word is for you!   It applies to your life and any situation you might find yourself walking through.

When I was so bound by fear that I could barely leave my house — I stood on the scriptures.   By “standing” on them, I mean I quoted them out loud and SPOKE to the fear!  I SPOKE to the situation at hand!  I SPOKE to the mountain that seemed to block my path.  Did I “feel” strong?  NO.  In the natural realm, did it make sense?  NO.  But the things of the Lord will never make sense to the people of the world.  His ways are spiritually discerned.

Reading Hebrews reminded me of this powerful scripture that was instrumental in changing the way I saw God’s Word:

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Do you understand that this WORD that we hold in our hands and speak from our mouths is ALIVE?  Did you realize that it moves through the atmosphere and brings change?   It ACTS.  It seems to have a life of its own.

Isaiah 55:11
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

When we speak God’s Word out loud it doesn’t just fall flat in the air.  It is NOT going to return without accomplishing something.  It will change the atmosphere around you.  It will move through time and space to do the will of the Father.

We only understand a drop of the authority and blessing that God has given us.

If you aren’t reading God’s Word, you are starving your spirit.   Feed yourself with the spiritual food provided by God.   Stand on the promises!  (Wow, as I typed this, an old hymn that I haven’t heard in years just started flowing through my head.)   The lyrics are below.  Please don’t skip over them thinking you know them all (my Baptist friends).  I had forgotten the powerful truth in these lyrics (emphasis mine):

Standing on the Promises

1.	Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
	through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.

        Refrain:
	Standing, standing,
	standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;
	standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

2.	Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God.
	(Refrain)

3.	Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
bound to him eternally by love's strong cord,
overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,
standing on the promises of God.
	(Refrain)

4.	Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
listening every moment to the Spirit's call,
resting in my Savior as my all in all,
standing on the promises of God.
	(Refrain)

Will you read His Word today and stand on His promises?

Have a blessed Tuesday everyone!
